For Julienne

Sleep well, my friend, my confidant,
sleep well and dream no more in darkness.

You, who have reached beyond the night to find the light
more than once In this lifetime,
Now look through the darkness, and see...
Here, we are all here for you now
each one of us whom you have touched,
softened, challenged.
We are all here for you. We touch you.

We touch your softness, costing you dearly,
so close to the surface,
and yet so protected from the world.
We touch your challenges. Never hidden,
thrown down on the table in unvarnished honesty
they would lay there.
Until we...hesitantly,
would pick them up, and meet each one.
To be honest.
To be grateful.
To see what was real from false.
You challenged us to believe,
to change.
To grow - and to grow up.
You dared us.
You dared us to hope, and take action.

Take action!
Without action it was just the words
we loved so much.
You, who have taught me so many things,
have taught me Grace.

Grace.
The moment In time when everything is as it should be.
I see you In your moment of Grace,
standing at the top of the stairs,
tossing your long aubum hair,
full throated laugh to the world.
A moment, when all dark things have
been pushed to the farthest comers of your world
by the light of your smile
and you stand there, triumphant in your moment of Grace.

You have seen the darkness too many times
you have searched for that one small flame again and again
Each time you followed the light out of the darkness,
you prayed it was the last time that you would have to face the night.

Sleep well, my friend, my guide
sleep well, wrapped In the light of Grace.
