Ms. Loveitt ended up withdrawing from the contest the following week.

Several other people were nominated that week and the eventual

winner was Ed Knutsen,  a South Portland Police Officer.  Rather

than go thru a protracted recount process, akin to the Bush-Gore

presidential election,  Malachy bow-wowed to Officer Knutsen to

receive the award.
